GHSMA Becomes Fulton Summer Music Academy

After a successful inaugural summer, GHSMA has been renamed the Fulton Summer Music Academy, and will take place this summer from July 11 to August 7. Applications and more information can be found here.

Teng has been appointed director of the Guarneri Hall Summer Music Academy, which will be taking place virtually in its inaugural year from July 12-31, 2020. Guest clinicians include James Ehnes, Paul Huang, and Miriam Fried. More information can be found here.

Teng Joins Pacific Music Institute Faculty

Jasmine Horton placed second in the junior I division of the 34th Music Festival in Honor of Confucius. She performed Introduction and Tarantelle by Sarasate and "Peach Blossoms" (trad.)
Student places at Sejong Competition

Maia Law, a senior at New Trier High School, placed second in the senior division of the 2019 Sejong Music Competition. She performed the first movement of the Brahms concerto and "Chant de l'Oiseau" by Min Jong Park.
Milwaukee Concert Series

In preparation for the upcoming Teng Studio-In-Residence tour to San Marino and Italy, the studio performed a series of concerts in Milwaukee, WI at various retirement communities and private homes. Students gained valuable experience traveling and performing as well as providing music for appreciative seniors citizens.

Montecito 2019

The Teng Studio wrapped up another successful summer at the Montecito International Music Festival. Students were awarded merit scholarships and a junior fellowship. A Teng Studio student sat concertmaster of the orchestra, and another was one of the youngest students ever admitted to the festival! Students played in masterclasses for Cho-Liang Lin, Andrés Cárdenes, Linda Rose, Peter Takács, and Martin Beaver. Time to prepare for next year!
Teng Studio-in-Residence: San Marino and Italy

The Teng studio will be traveling to San Marino and Italy in the fall to give concerts and masterclasses hosted by San Marino Youth Chamber Orchestra - Istituto Musicale Sammarinese in San Marino, Conservatorio Bruno Maderna in Cesena, Italy, and Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali "Pietro Mascagni" in Livorno, Italy.

Montecito 2018

The Teng Studio wrapped up another successful summer at the Montecito International Music Festival. Students were awarded merit scholarships and a junior fellowship, and played in the opening gala concert. Students played in masterclasses for Martin Beaver, Samuel Fischer, Danwen Jiang, and Peter Zazofsky. They also soloed with the Montecito Festival Orchestra. Teng Studio students sat co-concertmaster, assistant concertmaster, co-principal second, and assistant principal second. Mr. Teng also stepped in last-minute to teach a masterclass. Time to prepare for next year!
Chicago Summer Opera

It was a successful inaugural year of Chicago Summer Opera's String Program. Violin student Serena Scibelli had lessons with Addison Teng and Amy Hess, played in a private coaching with Jeremy Black (Grant Park Orchestra concertmaster and Pittsburgh Symphony principal second), and performed in the orchestra for Mozart's The Magic Flute.
Outstanding Young Alumni Award

Addison Teng has been awarded the 2018 Outstanding Young Alumni Award from Oberlin College and Conservatory. The award, which was established to recognize young alumni from the college and conservatory who have distinguished themselves in either their professional career or their service to humanity, will be presented on May 27 during Oberlin's commencement weekend.

The Teng Studio wrapped up another successful summer at the Montecito International Music Festival. Students were awarded merit scholarships and played in masterclasses for Cho-Liang Lin, Stephen Miahky, Emanuel Borok, and Mitch Newman. They also soloed with the Montecito Festival Orchestra with the Bach Concerto for Two Violins and the Bach Violin Concerto in A minor as a part of the concerto competition winner's reading. Time to prepare for next year!

They performed in the opening and final gala concerts. Students played in masterclasses for Martin Beaver, Alexander Treger, Emmanuel Borok, and Lorenz Gamma. The senior fellowship student played a Mozart piano trio with Lynn Harrell in a chamber music concert. Time to prepare for next year!
