Teng Inducted Into Who's Who

FSMA 2023 welcomed over two dozen students from three continents to the Lincoln Park campus of DePaul University School of Music in Chicago for four weeks. This year marked the debut of the piano and orchestral studies programs.

This spring, Teng gave several masterclasses. In late February, he traveled to Los Angeles, CA to give masterclasses for area college students. He then gave a day of masterclasses in May to pre-college students at Western University in London, Ontario.

In April, Teng gave a faculty recital at the DePaul University School of Music. The program featured Oberlin Conservatory of Music faculty member Peter Takács on piano and the Fulton Chamber Players.

Fulton Chamber Players Tour to Taiwan

Teng went on tour to Taiwan with a string trio of the Fulton Chamber Players, with concerts in Taipei, Tainan, and Taichung as well as masterclasses in Taipei and Tamsui. Read more about the tour here.

Teng gave several masterclasses in the past few months. In early August, he travelled to Washington, D.C. to give classes for area students, and in September, he gave a masterclass at Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, WI.

FSMA 2023 welcomed almost two dozen violin, viola, and cello students to the lakeside campus of Loyola University in Chicago for 4 weeks of lessons, chamber music, orchestra, masterclasses, and more.

Bubble Bash

The Fulton Chamber Players, of which Teng is a founding member, gave their debut performances as a part of Bubble Bash, a collaborative dining event featuring Chefs Simon Davies and Andrew Brochu, mixologist Julia Momosé, and Master Sommelier Jill Zimorski. Read more about the event here.

Teng gave several masterclasses this academic year. In September, he gave a class for students at Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, WI. He then traveled to Washington, D.C. to teach area students. In March, he gave chamber music coachings to students at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, IL.

Congratulations to student Austen Wu for being a prizewinner at in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition! He will perform the first movement of the Bruch Violin Concerto with the Philharmonic Orchestra later this spring.

Fulton In Residence 2021: Hawai'i

The Teng Studio-In-Residence programs have now become Fulton In Residence under the nonprofit Fulton Music Society. Over Thanksgiving 2021, Teng traveled with four FSMA students to Honolulu, Hawai'i for a week of masterclasses, concerts, and sightseeing. You can read more about the tour here.

Milwaukee Concert Series

In preparation for the upcoming Teng Studio-In-Residence tour to San Marino and Italy, the studio performed a series of concerts in Milwaukee, WI at various retirement communities and private homes. Students gained valuable experience traveling and performing as well as providing music for appreciative seniors citizens.

Montecito 2019

The Teng Studio wrapped up another successful summer at the Montecito International Music Festival. Students were awarded merit scholarships and a junior fellowship. A Teng Studio student sat concertmaster of the orchestra, and another was one of the youngest students ever admitted to the festival! Students played in masterclasses for Cho-Liang Lin, Andrés Cárdenes, Linda Rose, Peter Takács, and Martin Beaver. Time to prepare for next year!

The Teng studio  will be traveling to San Marino and Italy in the fall to give concerts and masterclasses hosted by San Marino Youth Chamber Orchestra - Istituto Musicale Sammarinese in San Marino, Conservatorio Bruno Maderna in Cesena, Italy, and Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali "Pietro Mascagni" in Livorno, Italy.

Montecito 2018

The Teng Studio wrapped up another successful summer at the Montecito International Music Festival. Students were awarded merit scholarships and a junior fellowship, and played in the opening gala concert. Students played in masterclasses for Martin Beaver, Samuel Fischer, Danwen Jiang, and Peter Zazofsky. They also soloed with the Montecito Festival Orchestra. Teng Studio students sat co-concertmaster, assistant concertmaster, co-principal second, and assistant principal second. Mr. Teng also stepped in last-minute to teach a masterclass. Time to prepare for next year!

Chicago Summer Opera

It was a successful inaugural year of Chicago Summer Opera's String Program. Violin student Serena Scibelli had lessons with Addison Teng and Amy Hess, played in a private coaching with Jeremy Black (Grant Park Orchestra concertmaster and Pittsburgh Symphony principal second), and performed in the orchestra for Mozart's The Magic Flute.

The Teng studio  will be traveling to Greece in November to give masterclasses, lectures, and concerts hosted by the University of Macedonia - Thessaloniki in conjunction with the Greek Society for Music Education.

Outstanding Young Alumni Award

Addison Teng has been awarded the 2018 Outstanding Young Alumni Award from  Oberlin College and Conservatory. The award, which was established to recognize young alumni from the college and conservatory who have distinguished themselves in either their professional career or their service to humanity, will be presented on May 27 during Oberlin's commencement weekend.

The Teng Studio wrapped up another successful summer at the Montecito International Music Festival. Students were awarded merit scholarships and played in masterclasses for Cho-Liang Lin, Stephen Miahky, Emanuel Borok, and Mitch Newman. They also soloed with the Montecito Festival Orchestra with the Bach Concerto for Two Violins and the Bach Violin Concerto in A minor as a part of the concerto competition winner's reading. Time to prepare for next year!

The Teng Studio embarked on a seven day tour to the Philippines, giving lessons, concerts and masterclasses. The mission of this residency was to promote cultural ties through music as well as to let our students experience how music can shape lives.

They performed in the opening and final gala concerts. Students played in masterclasses for Martin Beaver, Alexander Treger, Emmanuel Borok, and Lorenz Gamma. The senior fellowship student played a Mozart piano trio with Lynn Harrell in a chamber music concert. Time to prepare for next year!
